Y8 Rugby Team Pick Up Silverware
Monday 24th May 2010

Balby Carr came runners up at the 9 a side rugby league competition held at Doncaster Toll Bar on Thursday. The competition was watched by Doncaster Dons coach Tony Miller who was impressed that we were the only school to turn up in the whole of South Yorkshire.

Every player put their body on the line for the school and wore their heart on their sleeves. A sequence of a win, draw and two losses were enough for Balby to achieve runners up against schools renound for their rugby ability. This was the first time the team were able to collect a victory against tough opposition. Kyle Brandon did exceptional at hooker as did Adam Wilcock when called upon. Leyton Cuffy made inroads as did Cameron Hill. Tom Mcgarry made the first real break to offload to Adam Dawson who went close early on. Jacob Hartle fed the ball to Joel Hanson who used his strength and speed to power over the line. Special praise to mention goes to Harry Nicklin, he outmuscled the opposition to score his first of two for the evening in his first ever rugby game. Jack Scarrott was involved in the thick of things making numerous breaks along with Martin Curry. Taurai Mavhuru was again solid in defence along with Luke Taylor and Shaun Hotham who got involved when he had to. The lads were jubilant at the final whistle as they knew they had done enough to earn some silverwear. Well done, I am sure there is more to come!
