The 'Pride' of Balby Carr
Thursday 10th June 2010
A Pride of Students at Balby Carr Community Sports and Science College did the College proud as they performed a selection of songs from the musical ‘Lion King’ in a series of 5 concerts for the Year 5 students from the local Primary Schools.
This series of concerts followed last years performance for the Year 5 students of ‘Joseph and his technicoloured Dream Coat’
The concerts took place every afternoon of the week starting 24 May 2010. The concert was divided into two sections. The first section was a performance by Balby Carr students of a selection of songs. Then the Year 5 Primary School students were invited to learn and perform a song as part of a group. Every performance was to a high standard with students giving 110% effort. As the students became more confident the performances improved leading to high quality, professional performances.
The ‘Lion King’ choir consisted of students from a Year 9 GCSE music group who have recently been studying Songs from Musicals as part of the course alongside a number of Year 7, 8 and 9 students who have been rehearsing every week since February.
All the students performed to an outstanding standard but a special mention has to be made to Connor Watson who performed all the male parts on the Wednesday concert on his own as all the rest of the boys were out on a visit. He never took a backwards step and performed with exceptional confidence.
The highlight of the concert was to see students and staff from Balby Carr and the visiting primary schools enjoying themselves, singing together and producing a fantastic sound. This series of concerts have again shown what talent we have at Balby Carr and how commitment and hard work can produce outstanding results. The learning that took place for all students was invaluable and beneficial especially for the Music GCSE students who put the theory they had learned about musical performances into practise.
A selection of songs was recorded and a CD was made as memento for the student who took part in the concerts. These songs can be found below.
