Gary Lineker Backs Balby Academy of Sport Golf Marathon for MacMillan Cancer Support
Monday 28th June 2010
Football legend Gary Lineker has encouraged local golfers from Balby Academy of Sport from a local Doncaster School and Retford Golf Club to swing into action for charity this summer, by taking part in Macmillan‘s Longest Day Golf Challenge 2010.
Three teams made up of 11 players will tee-off on Wednesday 14th July 2010 at Retford Golf Club for round 1 at 5.30 am, where they hope to raise more than £1000 in sponsorship for the cancer care charity by playing four rounds of golf in just one day.
Team member Joseph King says: “I can’t wait to take part in Macmillan’s golfing challenge not only will it be a fun day out but I will be helping a very worthwhile cause. It’s a tough challenge to complete four rounds of golf in one day, but we’ll be spurred on knowing every single hole played will be raising money to help people living with cancer.”
The top four teams from across the UK (calculated through combined scoring and fundraising totals) will go on to compete for the “Longest Day Golf Challenge Trophy”. The final will take place at the prestigious Boavista Golf Resort in October 2010.
Gary Lineker, who is supporting the event, adds: “I wish everyone taking part in the event good luck. It is for such a great cause, Macmillan Cancer Support does truly wonderful work and deserves our support. Play well and play quickly."
